This harp belonged this Marie Antoinette and was a permanent part of her largest private apartment at Versailles. Music was among one of the doomed Queen's greatest passions and the harp happened to be her favourite instrument - which is probably why it was not changed with the ever-changing décors.
The harp was made by Jean-Henri Naderman and was delivered to the then Dauphine. The side-boards are decorated with paintings of Minerva (patroness of the arts) and Peace. A cherub carries the Queen's arms and a large number of lilies adds to the splendour of this magnificent instrument.
