du Barry in Black

Gladys George wears this amazing gown as Madame du Barry in the 1938-edition of "Marie Antoinette".
Black was an unusual colour for someone who was not in mourning but then again Madame du Barry was something of a Versailles rebel. The black fabric looks very lush so perhaps it is velvet? The large golden decorations are embroidered as are the grey areas (mainly on the petticoat). Some parts of the dress seemed to have been adorned with pearls in the midst of a golden grid pattern.
Golden tulle has been sewn onto the sleeves and the neckline creating a nice transition between the dark fabric and the bare arms underneath. Notice that the bodice has been embroidered in a way to make the waistline seem smaller which was actually a very popular fashion trend and still is.

Lime Love

Hélène de Fougerolles is Madame de Pompadour in the movie "Jeanne Poisson, Marquise de Pompadour" from 2006. In this movie she wears this eye-catching lime coloured satin gown. With a colour like that it is no wonder that she did not choose a different fabric for her petticoat! The bodice is embroidered with orange and yellow silky thread. The sleeves are very different from the common fashion. From underneath the standard white lace the sleeve continues in a pale green that covers most of her hand. The line between the green satin and the white lace is elegantly concealed by the use of embroidery. The same white lace has been used for the neckline and the neck ribbon. At the Marquise's left side a rosette flower has been pinned to the bodice - of course it matches the thread.
The skirt is hemmed with pleaded lime-green satin trimmed with orange thread. The same style has been applied to the bottom of the skirt right above the hem.

du Barry's Teal Gown

Asia Argento portrays Madame du Barry in Marie Antoinette (2006). She wears this dress when Madame du Barry attends the wedding of Marie Antoinette and Louis Auguste. Sadly, the gown is only seen briefly and it is only the top of the dress that is shown. The exotic teal colour would definitely stand out among the pastel gowns of the other ladies. The bodice is decorated with dark (black?) lace that just peak up over the neckline. A brooch of diamonds tops off the bodice.
An interesting feature with this dress is the little decoration at her middle of her upper arm - the same lace used for the bodice is pinned to the dress with a diamond brooch. The sleeves end in a wide white lace. It may seem as if she is wearing a watch but it is in fact a bracelet which she is also wearing on her other arm. Madame du Barry was infamous for her love of jewels and this dress is accompanied by a huge teal-coloured gemstone embedded on a silver and diamond base. It's definitely worth of a royal mistress.

A Yellow Madame

Hélène de Fougerolles wears this dress as Madame de Pompadour in "Jeanne Poisson, Marquise de Pompadour". Sadly, no detailed description of the dresses in this movie has been published, so we will have to go by what we can see. The petticoat appears to be of some sort of satin but the bodice and sleeves are of a different kind as well as brighter in colour. The fabric has a damask pattern in two shades of yellow. The brooch on her chest is fastened to what looks like black tulle which is also applied to the sleeves and the edge of the bodice.
The dress is a Robe à la Francaise and the bodice is clearly meant to be seen. It has small yellow buttons all the way from the top to the bottom. The white ribbon on her neck matches the pearls on both her wrists.
