The Round Room served as a vestibule to the apartment occupied by Louis XIV between 1688-1691. Since then not much have changed regarding the décor: the columns, the marble pavement and the paintings are all the same that the Sun King ordered. There is another little feature about the room that adds to its story. Most visitors notice the large wooden drum on the right of the fireplace but few notice that it is hiding a door - this door was used only by musicians!
When Napoleon lived here this room was the waiting-room for the Emperor's ushers.
