The Cool Room

The room has been so named because it faces north. This location made it ideal to use as a summer dining room. Napoleon preferred to use this room as his council chamber and it was right here that Charles X resigned in 1830. Walking through Versailles and the Trianons you cannot escape the presence of Louis XIV. The carved garlands of flowers as well as the paintings dates back to his time. Above the door hangs "Spring" and "Winter" by Jean Jouvenet and the side walls are adorned with "Views of Versailles" by Jean-Baptiste Martin.
The furniture is from the First Empire and includes a clock by Lepaute, upholstery by Beauvais and a paper cabinet by Jacob-Desmalter. The fireplace is made of Campan marble.
